I. General definitions
§1. The Competition. 24HOURS competition is part of the project entitled “SCHEDULE. The significance of competitions in higher education”, conducted by the University of Lodz in cooperation with the Lillehammer University College, financed by the Norway Grants. Detailed information on the project and the competition are available on websites www.schedule.edu.pl and www.24hours.edu.pl. The English language is the event’s official language.
§2. The Organizer. The Competition is organized by the Institute of Urban Geography and Tourism Studies at University of Lodz, located in Lodz at Kopcinskiego Street No. 31.
§3. The Partner. The Competition Partner is any entity declaring cooperation with the Institute of Urban Geography and Tourism Studies at University of Lodz, on the basis of a separate agreement.
§4. Jury. The Competition Jury includes persons appointed by the Organizer, representing Organizer and Partners as well as external experts. The members of the Jury must possess the knowledge or experience on the Subject of the Competition. The chairman of the Jury is Professor Bogdan Wlodarczyk.
§5. The Organizing Committee. The Organizing Committee of the Competition includes contractors of the project “SCHEDULE. The significance of competitions in higher education”. The Organizing Committee cooperates with volunteers under a separate agreement. Head of the Organizing Committee is Tomasz Napierala, PhD.
§6. The Subject of the Competition, The Subject of the Competition concerns problems of the development of the tourism economy in Lodz Metropolitan Area, and in particular the development opportunities of MICE tourism. A detailed description of the subject of the competition will be published on the website www.24hours.edu.pl, no later than 2nd November 2014.
§7. The Competition Task. The Competition Task will be defined by the jury and publicly announced at the very beginning of the Competition. The Competition Task will be related to the Subject of the Competition. The aim of the Competition is to select the best solution for the Competition Task. The Competition Task execution is tantamount to preparing a written description and presentation about the solution of the Competition Tasks.
II. Terms of participation
§8. The Competition is open. Up to ten five-persons teams (representing any university or department) can take part in the Competition. The composition of each team includes four students and one tutor.
§9. Organizing Committee reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to restrict the number of teams representing each department to one. In case of receiving submissions from more than ten teams, the Organizing Committee shall select teams.
§10. The Jury members and members of the Organizing Committee and their closest relatives cannot participate in the Competition or assist the participants. All participants receive the same package of handouts.
§11. The application of the participation in the Competition takes place via an electronic registration form available on the website www.24hours.edu.pl. The application of participation is made by the tutor of the team. Submissions can be made until 3rd November 2014. The incomplete, inaccurate notification or submitted after the deadline will not be considered by the Organizing Committee.
§12. The application of the participation is equivalent to agreeing to: a) the processing of personal data of participants by the Organizer and sharing of these data with the Partners, only for the organization of the Competition purposes; b) the using of any content generated by the participants, in the research, informational and promotional activities carried out by the Organizer; c) the using of the image of the participants settled in pictures and movies in informational and promotional activities conducted by the Organizer.
§13. Participation in the Competition is free of charge. The Organizer provides participants during the Competition: a) food and beverages, b) place to work, c) portable computer with Internet access and installed MSOffice suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
§14. Each participant agrees to participate in the questionnaire evaluation study carried out during the Competition.
§15. The tutor of each team participating in the Competition undertakes to prepare 15 minutes of the public speech in accordance with the Subject of the Competition. Title of the presentation should be given during the application of the participation.
§16. In case of the victory in the Competition, or (when the victory will fall the team representing the Lillehammer University College) taking second place in the Competition – each participant agrees to participate in a study visit in Lillehammer University College held from 8th to 14th March 2015. Costs of the study visit are covered by the Organizer, provided that the cost of the return transfer from the place of residence or study of the participant to Lillehammer and the costs of travel insurance cannot exceed the amount of 2487.34 PLN.
§17. The decisions of the Organizing Committee and Jury are final, not subject to appeal.
III. Dates and venue
§18. The competition starts on 14th November 2014, at 16:00 in the auditorium No. 19/20 of the Faculty of Geographical Sciences, University of Lodz, in Lodz at Narutowicza Street No. 88. Reception, most of the events of the Competition and places to work of the Competition participants will be located in the buildings of the Faculty of Geographical Sciences at University of Lodz, in Lodz at Kopcinskiego Street No. 31 and Narutowicza Street No. 88.
§19. At the very beginning of the Competition, Jury will publicly announce the Competition Task. At the same time the Jury will present the criteria which will be used during the evaluation of the solutions of the Competition Task , prepared by the teams participating in the Competition.
§20. On 15th November 2014, at 12:00, the teams participating in the Competition will end the work on the preparation of solutions of the Competition Task. The solution of the Competition Task must be submitted to the Jury as a PowerPoint presentation.
§21. On 15th November 2014, from 13:00 to 14:30, the teams participating in the Competition will present to the public prepared solution of the Competition Task. For the presentation, each team will receive up to 7 minutes.
§22. On 15th November 2014, from 14:30 to 15:30, a closed meeting of the Jury will take place. During the meeting, the best solution of the Competition Task will be selected. Immediately after the end of its work, the Jury will give to the public the results of the Competition.
§23. On 15th November 2014, from 15:30 to 16:00, the closing ceremony of the Competition will be held.
§24. The detailed program of the Competition will be confirmed after 2nd November 2014, and publicly announced on the website www.24hours.edu.pl.
IV. Awards
§25. The first prize in the Competition is a voucher for a weekend stay for the winning team at the hotel managed by the company Hekon Hotele Ekonomiczne Co. The validity of the voucher is 15th November 2016. Ultimate choice of the hotel will be announced no later than 3rd November 2014. Hotel Novotel Łódź Centrum is the sponsor of the prize.
§26. The members of the winning team (or – in the case of the victory of the team representing the Lillehammer University College – members of the second team) will participate in a study visit in Lillehammer University College held from 8th to 14th March 2015. During the study visit, the members of the winning team will work on optimizing the best solution of the Competition Task and participate in evaluation studies (individual in-depth interviews). The cost of participation in the study visit is covered by the Organizer, subject to §16 of these Terms and Conditions.
§27. For the winning awards are not entitled to a cash or kind equivalent, the winners do not have the right to assign the reward to the third parties.
V. Final provisions
§28. By submitting the application of the participation each participant agrees to all of these Terms and Conditions.
§29. The Organizer is not responsible for the cancellation of the Competition or changes in the schedule due to any reasons beyond its control.
§30. The Organizer reserves the right to change these Terms and Conditions, provided that such change will not infringe on the acquired rights of the Competition participants. About any changes the organizer will inform via the website www.24hours.edu.pl.
§31. Matters not provided for in these Terms and Conditions shall be decided by the Organizing Committee.
